Kawasaki Versys: MRA Windscreen

Since aquiring the Kawasaki Versys, I have been searching for an aftermarket windscreen to deal with the notorious buffeting created by the stock screen.  The buffeting is horrible, despite having several mounting positions for the stock screen, and after a few long trips, I had to agree the riding was more of a workout than I enjoy…

Enter MRA, makers of aftermarket Windscreens for many motorcycles, with a couple options for the Versys.  The base windscreen is much wider (shown in photo below), and taller than the stock screen.  This alone has been known to help Kawasaki Versys riders, but many still complain the air is directed toward the head, making the ride better, but not great.  The first product that I saw added to the base model was the “touring” spoiler, which included an adjustable extension to help eliminate buffeting.  The touring model got decent reviews, and I was about to pull the trigger, when I read a review about a new product, by a member on the Kawasaki Versys forum.  This rider, while standing quite a bit taller than me, had purchased the base windscreen and a newly available spoiler add-on separately, and installed them on his Versys.

The base screen was found on that forum, brand new but unused, for a good discount.  Then I ordered the X-creen spoiler from Twisted Throttle, and awaited the deliveries.  When the packages finally arrived, I was horrified to see the detail of the mounting instructions.  They seemed overly complicated, as well as requiring me to drill through the plastic of the brand new base windscreen.  Good grief!

Turns out, the template they provide allowed for fairly accurate holes to be drilled, and after taking a deep breath, I fired up the drill and sank the bit through the plastic.  Holes done, putting the spoiler together was another nightmare, with directions seemingly meant for converting the space shuttle to bio-diesel.  Got it all worked out though, and mounted the new windscreen and spoiler onto the Kawasaki Versys, and low and behold, a proper sized screen, for keeping the wind off my helmet!

I’ll update once I have some time in the saddle, to see if this thing is as good as others have reported…

    1. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to really test out the screen. I will have some updates in the coming months – and will definitely be posting them here.
