Austin Vince decided to head around the world for motorcycle adventures…

Back in 1995, Austin Vince and a few pals decided it was time to experience the world.  This was at a time before the internet’s proliferation of “adventure” bike forums and sales outlets.  This was simply some friends looking to have a motorcycle adventure, and despite not having $20k BMW motorcycles on-hand to complete the task, they headed out anyway…

Motorcycle Adventures can be ‘cheap’

Some crossings are easier than others…

Austin & co. headed out, with the intention of covering as much of the world as possible, in a 300 day motorcycle adventure.  No support, sponsorship or backing, these 9 guys headed out for points unknown, with some low-cost bikes and a few dollars (pounds?) in their pockets, and sights set on life experiences.

Hatching the plan 3 years before leaving, the trip, later titled Mondo Enduro, encompassed 14 months, 40,000 miles and 44 countries. While most people today believe that a trip of this magnitude is out of their reach, Austin disagrees:

It’s a great shame to see that to most people, it’s not obvious to most people, that motorcycling around the world is very cheap, safe and easy.  The tragedy of what’s happening in Motorcycle adventures at the moment, is that all sorts of different people are making money out of it, and in doing so, because they’re selling you something, any normal person coming into it will thing: ‘well these companies wouldn’t exist unless I needed this stuff.’  And before you’ve left, you think you need 5 grand, plus 12 grand worth of motorcycle.

Check out the short film that documents their trip…
