It was a long, hard road bringing the 1969 Honda CL350 back to decent running condition.  As posted earlier in the fall, we opted to forgo perfection, and make sure that Ruby would get to enjoy some riding before the cold set in…

Fortunately, Ruby was able to enjoy some riding throughout the summer and fall months.  Now the weather has started to turn colder, and work on the documentary is ramping up, so the Honda CL350 is going out to Queens for a long wintry nap.

Ruby came down to MotoPreserve to grab the bike, and take it out to her folks’ garage for the winter.  Problem was, it hadn’t been run in about a month, and the bike seemed to be firing on just one cylinder.  After a few checks, it was determined that there was a bit of oil leaking into the left side cover, where the points are mounted.  Not good!  We had planned on swapping out the whole points plate mechanism anyway, since the boys from Venturi Moto had brought us a fresh one during their visit.

Danny hopped on it, getting the points changed, the timing done, and the bike fired up better than ever.  A job well done, and with a bit of Sta-Bil, the Honda CL350 is ready for its winter hibernation.

Next Spring we will address some of the carb issues, getting some hesitation out of the mid-range.  But for this season, the smile on Ruby’s face was proof-positive that the decision to get it running order, and allow her to enjoy the last bit of the season, were the right call…
