This is how the Harley Shovelhead looked on day 1…

When Brandon left MotoPreserve with his Harley Sportster in the back of a pickup truck, ready for a trade for a 1970 Harley Shovelhead, we were all excited for him.  He had wanted a more vintage Harley, and this looked to be just what he was hoping for…

Customizing the custom Harley Shovelhead…

Brandon was pumped on the trade, but the “severity” of the customization was a bit much for him, particularly the front end.  The forks were extra wide, making the front of the bike look a bit odd.  He began making a list of the things that he’d like to change, all centered around this classic Harley Shovelhead engine.

It seems the good thing about Harley’s is the ability to sell just about any part, almost instantly.  Brandon began removing the parts he didn’t want, and already has the boxed up for shipping to happy customers.

In tearing down the bike, Brandon has found some parts that need repair or replacement.  The pipes has some sever rust, and there is a new fork set on its way.  The biggest (or smallest!) cosmetic change will be the handlebars.  The wide bars that came on the bike were a bit big for Brandon, so he opted to go the exact opposite route.  These bars are the (by far) the smallest on any bike at MotoPreserve.

Stay tuned for updates, they will be coming fast and furious, since Brandon has been been at the shop regularly, chipping away at the needed changes…
