The Puch Moped engine all cleaned up and rebuilt…

After a fair amount of goofing on the boys, they proved us all wrong by getting this Puch Moped rebuilt, running smooth, and looking good.  It took some fiddling, some diagnostic work and some patience, but they got this thing pretty slick…

Turns out, there is more involved with the engine on the Puch Moped than Jarred and Christian first realized.  While it’s a simple machine, the differences between the Puch Moped and a typical motorcycle are vast – and it took some research to figure out what was holding the rebuild up.

A bent stator (or is it an alternator?) caused some rubbing inside the left side cover, causing the engine to feel like it was locking up.  Jarred discovered the issue, after making a custom puller, removing the bad part, and replacing it with the good one from the other Puch Moped.

Once it all seemed straight, they fired it up, and away they went.  This little 2stroke makes quite a racket indoors, especially with this “racing” pipe and muffler setup.  Not quite sure what the deal is with this thing, but for sure it’s not stock!

After some riding around the block, Jarred felt comfortable enough in the repairs to cruise Williamsburg, enjoying a slow jaunt around the neighborhood.  This thing is just about ready for a new owner…

I have to eat my words.  As much as this vehicle is not for me – the boys did a mighty fine job of making a great little scooter for someone who will appreciate it.
