The Harley Shovelhead gets a whole new front end – trimming down the monster…

When Brandon first brought the 1970 Harley Shovelhead home, it came complete with a custom frame – as well as a front end that included bars too wide for him, and forks that seemed to be residing in the next state over…

With the smaller front end, the Harley Shovelhead seems to be in better proportion….

This is going to be one hell of a good looking Harley Shovelhead, once Brandon finishes up the proposed mods.  First thing was to replace the forks and handlebars that came on the bike.  The previous owner obviously liked a broad look, with forks that seemed to be about 2 feet wide.  Brandon grabbed a 35mm stock length narrowglide front end, and slapped it on the bike.  Instantly, the bike looked more “civilized.”

The bike also came with a 21″ front tire, which I guess made sense with the extra-wide forks.  But with the new front end, the Harley Shovelhead got a 19″ front wheel, with Avon Speedmaster tire (the rear tire was swapped for Firestone ANS).

The Harley Shovelhead gets slim...

The Harley Shovelhead gets slim…

As you can see in the photo above, the look of the bike in now far slimmer than it had been.  I have a bit of concern over HOW slim it is now, but that’s Brandon’s choice.  Hopefully he gets used to riding with his hands practically touching in the middle…

Stay tuned for future mods to this classic 1970 Harley Shovelhead…
