The Custom Rearset Mounts needed more “flair…”

The custom rearset mounts for the Honda CB500T were coming along nicely, but there was something missing.  After milling just a slight indentation in the face of the mounts, it lacked the pizazz we were hoping for.  So we decided to go deep…

While they are only a functional piece for this build, we wanted to make them look as good as possible.  They will be holding the universal Loaded Gun rearsets, so the mouhts should be strong but unassuming…

We got the slots milled on the old Millrite Powermatic, and got ready to drill the holes for mounting.  This is always the part that causes the most nerves.  If the mount holes are off by even a hair…trouble!  So we checked, and double checked….and triple checked.

The measurements for this project were adhered to pretty strictly, since we didn’t have the bike in front of us.  That meant that no matter what we wanted to do esthetically, we had to keep tight to the tolerances – so that they didn’t look beautiful, but have no use on the actual bike.

After the holes were drilled (correctly!) we got ready for polishing.  Nothing like wet-sanding, with water dripping down your arms, in a shop that is only 40 degrees….

The photo above shows one of the mounts after some polishing.  Wet-sand with several grits of paper, and then onto the buffing wheel for several colors of polish.

Stay tuned for photos coming of the mounts on the Honda CB500T…
