Down to the garage I trudge, hoping for a break.  I need these carbs to get straight, or else I’ll never get to the other fixes I have planned, before my trip.  The float needle issue is starting to get to me.  I have now been messing with the carbs for about a week or more.  This needs to end, and end quick.  I roll her out to the sidewalk in front of Moto Preserve, and open up the petcock, making sure to have a small container beneath the overflow tube.  This is normally when the gas starts pouring out…. Honda CB 550 Carb Rebuild: UPDATE redux REDUX

Man!  I can not seem to get these carbs out of my hair.  Turns out, every other time I start her up, one carb has some leaking issues.  It turns out that one of the float needles (see photo below) is stuck, and causing the gas to continue to flow – when it should be shutting off.  Total pain in the ass!

Honda CB 550 Complete Carb Rebuild: UPDATE REDUX

Back into the carbs I went…I think this makes it 4 or 5 times now.  I removed all the float bowls, and swapped out the main jets for the ones that had been in my old carbs.  They didn’t necessarily look any better to the naked eye, so maybe it’s superstitious, but they worked on the old carbs pretty well.  I also took out the slow (pilot) jets, put a VERY small copper wire through them, and sprayed them with aerosol carb cleaner, and lastly blew them out with the air compressor.  These things seem pretty sparkling now.  They better work!
