While away in Vermont, I started checking the local Craigslist for a project bike I could grab for dirt cheap. Since we had driven up with the Honda CB550 in the back of a van, it seemed wasteful to return without the van filled with bikes…
Honda CL360: rough start to a Cafe Racer…
I found a few decent prospects, but the best was an old Honda CL360. I corresponded with the kid who owned it, and decided to pull the trigger.
These pics show the Honda CL360 the way we found it. This will be the starting point for a full tear-down project, which will eventually be rebuilt in the cafe racer style. As you can see, it came to me with a healthy amount of grease.
I used an entire can of degreaser, just to make the smell tolerable in the van. Unfortunately, it didn’t really work, and I was huffing gas the whole way home. Worth it!
I have a rough vision for the project, and hope to make some progress soon. But this bike will need just about everything to bring it back to life, and breath some fresh glory into it.
The progress will be well documented here. Stay tuned…
