This is the 4th installment in the series of videos from the Moto Preserve Road Trip down south. The trip had been mostly trouble free, with the occasional stop to check oil, tighten chains, and mess with the electrical wires. All told, not bad for 35 year old bikes. Unfortunately, this is where things went sideways with Scott’s Honda CB 350…After a fantastic meal and good nights rest at some friend’s house in south-western Virginia, we left in the morning for our trip back north, to Brooklyn. Although Scott had experienced some heavy oil leaking during the trip, this day saw the bike lose one cylinder…twice! The second time, after getting ourselves off the highway, he was graced with a new type of clanking from the engine. That’s all she wrote. Packed he and the bike up in a rental truck, and had to part ways for the last leg of the trip.
The Honda CB 550 would have to do the trip home alone, and although Scotty would be missed, it was clearly better that he did not find himself stranded alone, and far from any help. Sometime riding these vintage Honda motorcycles requires a bit of positive attitude, not allowing frustration to set in, when the age kicks in a reminds you that these bikes are OLD!
