Craigslist: Buyer beware…or entertained!

...and away we go!

There is a great article on the Motorcycle Classics Magazine web site today, which chronicles the exploits of an unsuspecting buyer, looking to buy a vintage project on Craigslist.  While the free “want ad” service that Craigslist offers has revolutionized the way we purchase bikes, it comes with its own set of trials and tribulations…The biggest problem with Craigslist, as pointed out by the author, is that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, feels they have a gem in their garage, worth untold fortunes, just waiting for you to come pick it up, no questions asked.  This mentality leads to some pretty rough work of sifting through the good and the bad, hoping to conserve your time, when it comes to scheduling visits to these museums of vintage treasures.  Hopefully you know the bike that you are planning on looking at, and can ask some basic questions to weed out the absurd, so that the bikes you actually go to see, wind up being in the shape you are willing to deal with…

Good luck out there, it’s a wacky world of inflated worth and folks who feel every nut and bolt is gold.
