A Honda Shadow Bobber, now that’s a change of pace…

Walking through my neighborhood the other day, I came across, for me, an odd sight.  It was a Bobber, which for Williamsburg, Brooklyn is no rare sighting, but on closer inspection, was not a Harley Davidson, but I believe, a Honda Shadow

I have seen all sorts of Bobbers, young and old, but I can’t recall ever seeing one made from a Honda Shadow, and it got me thinking…

It seems each genre of build has it’s staple donor bikes.  Many Cafe Racers you see will start life as a British classic, or more recently 1970’s Honda CB series or a Yamaha XS.  Bobbers often begin their career as Harley’s or even Triumphs.  In my experience, the Japanese Cruisers are not turned into customs at the rate of the more classic bikes.  But the few times I have seen these “odd” choices, I find myself attracted to them in a way that is inspiring.

It’s the path less traveled that gives these builds a little something extra, a bit of zing, that the standard donors don’t have.  Recognizing that someone looked at a bike, that may not have been the obvious choice, and still decided to sculpt it into their own vision, is what I have grown to love about these oddballs.  Kudos to this builder for choosing a bike that many customizers would leave by the roadside.

A Honda Shadow Bobber…hot damn, why not?
