No question, being able to make a custom part that is needed, with the right tools, is priceless. Not only does it eliminate the torturous wait for internet purchased parts, but the piece can be made to order…as long as you know what you’re doing.
Danny has been methodically working through the steps of a prototype for his custom rearsets for the Yamaha XS650 Cafe Racer, the newest revelation is the use of a mill. While the lathe has attachments available for this type of work, there is a clear distinction between a tool that CAN do the job, and a tool that SHOULD do the job.
Within a couple hours of unpacking the new mill, Danny was creating radius cuts for the mounts for the custom rear sets. Looks like these might be slapped on the bike quicker than he thought…
With the frame and misc parts off to powdercoating, and the rearsets so close, it’s becoming obvious that this Yamaha XS 650 Cafe racer is going to be a dream!
