Danny’s Yamaha XS650 Cafe Racer: rearset levers complete!

The custom rearset levers are complete!

I haven’t been able to help Danny much lately with his Yamaha XS650 Cafe Racer, but with some help from the other guys at MotoPreserve, he has been moving right along.  Last night, I got a text with this photo of the custom rearsets, complete with the newly milled shifter lever…

After experimenting with several prototype designs, Danny finally settled on a classic, one piece, aluminum shift and brake lever.  This was the last piece of the puzzle, which was made difficult by the ‘mill attachment’ to the Harbor Freight lathe.  The addition of a proper mill to the shop, has made shaping and cuts for these rearsets much simpler, and we can only imagine where these projects are headed, once Danny gets more comfortable on the new machine.

The frame and misc parts arrived back from powdercoating, and they look great.  That meant it was time to get the engine back in-frame, with new swingarm bushings, and the wheels in place.

Looks like this bike will be ready for riding sometime in the near future.  Stay tuned for the final updates as the bike is buttoned up, and the engine rebuild gets fired for the first time…
