The Honda CL 350 engine is back in the frame...

There have been long delays in getting the top-end rebuild done on Ruby’s 1969 Honda CL 350, but we finally have some solid progress.  This job was one that required the knowledge of almost everyone at MotoPreserve, which is the reason we have this collective to begin with…

Turns out there were some snags getting the Cam Chain aligned correctly, which is somewhat common for reassembling these engines.  The difference is pretty dramatic between the smaller CL 350, and the larger 4 cylinder Honda’s, so this engine was completely foreign to some of us.

Thankfully, Scott from the shop, and Sam (contributor to this site) both have extensive experience with these bikes, and together, they were able to finally get the damn thing back together, and in the frame.  Looks like we are really close, and looking forward to firing it up, to check our work…

The spark advancer was toughest of all

The spark advancer was toughest of all

For some reason, after getting the entire engine buttoned up, the spark advancer, which holds the points, produced the most frustration, refusing to slide onto the end of the cam shaft.  Eventually, with some grease, and some pounding, it slipped on, and we were done for the day.
