Ruby’s CL 350 getting close…

We have been working on Ruby’s Honda CL 350 for quite some time, but finally, after all the boys in the garage kicked in their time and effort, and we got the damn thing running…

The biggest issue we were having was figuring out the timing.  The alignment of the crank to the cam, which drives the valves, was WAY off.  Turns out, we may have had an aftermarket cam (race cam?), which was throwing the proverbial ‘wrench in the works…’

There has been some serious frustrations with this bike.  More frustrating because the Honda CL 350 is supposed to be a “simple” bike.  Well, not this one.  It points out that you really never know what you are inheriting when you buy a used, 35 year old bike.  That’s a lot of time for people to have messed with it, and you find yourself chasing your tail, trying to track down phantom issues.  We probably should not be surprised, given the fact that we found the cylinders had been overbored 3 sizes.  Whomever did that job, obviously performed some other “fixes” that have caused us no lack of heartache…

With some serious help from the other guys in the garage (Jarred, Christian, Sam, Scott, Danny, Scott….), the Honda CL 350 cam finally got lined up, tweaked and fired up.  Now all we need is Ruby to decide on a helmet (!), and she’ll be off and running…
