A guy stopped by the shop the other day to see if we would be interested in cleaning and rebuilding his S&S Shorty Super E carb. It came off his Harley Davidson, which had been sitting for 3 years…
Having never messed with this type of carb before, but having plenty of experience with cleaning these things, figured we’d give it a shot. The outside of the carb looked bad enough, but it wasn’t until we got inside the damn thing that we really saw the nightmare.
After cleaning Honda and Yamaha carbs so many times, it was interesting to see the differences in the way these S&S Shorty Super E carb work. Got the full Master Rebuild Kit through Indian Larry, and began our standard process of using Barryman’s Carb dip, rinse, then into the blast cabinet for some soda cleaning, finished off by another dip and rinse. This system has become pretty solid, and we were happy with the results.
Another cab down…
