Kawasaki Versys: Highway Peg Mounts

The Motowerk Highway Peg Mounts for the Kawasaki Versys…

I have never been attracted to cruiser motorcycles, not even just a little bit.  But there I was, preparing for a long trip up to Vermont, installing Motowerk Highway Peg Mounts custom-made for the Kawasaki Versys

The company Motowerk makes several custom pieces for the Kawasaki Versys, as well as seveal other bikes, and in my experience, does a damn fine job.  Currently, this is the second product that I have installed on the bike, the first being the mirror extenders, which make the mirrors indeed usable.  The quality of the products is top-notch, and although highway pegs sets a bike into a whole different category, my desire for comfort superseded style (which went out the window when I purchased the Kawasaki Versys to begin with!), so I went for it.

Motowerk’s kit comes complete with everything you need…

The Motowerk kit for the Kawasaki Versys comes complete with everything you need to install and mount highway pegs onto your bike.  The only thing missing are allen keys, and the pegs themselves, which can be purchased from any typical moto store for under $20.  Of course, the sky is the limit, and you can spend into the hundreds for fancy pegs.  But again, comfort over fashion, I opted for the cheapies.

After reading the directions, the install is pretty straight forward.  The confusion presents itself when the time comes to make a decision about the placement and angle of the mounts.  Motowerk claims that the mounts allow 90 different angles to be had, using a circular series of holes and a pin to secure the position.  Good grief…too many options!

Cruiser-esque? Nah, still a kooky looking Kawasaki Versys.

I finally found a position I liked, at least as a starting point, and the mounts and pegs are now secured onto the frame of the bike.  The design and build quality are incredible, and the overall look doesn’t seem to bother me as much as I thought it would.  Suffice to say, the Kawasaki Versys is not now, nor will it ever be, a cruiser.

What do you think?  Does this push me round the bend into the world of the cruiser?  I’ll let you know how my legs feel when I do a long ride with some flexibility…
