Perfect!

I stumbled across a reader submission on the Return of the Cafe Racers site that highlights a Honda 400T hawk, with a polished tank.  There is no info about the builder, but the guy who did up this build got the tank perfect!  This is how I would love to see my tank look after the work I put into it, getting the inside nice and healthy.  Currently, mine is looking cool, but ragged.  I need to spend some quality time at the table, sanding and buffing.  Or maybe I just need to find this guy, and invite him over to help me out…

I wonder if he accepts payment in six-packs?

Honda CB 550: Clean Tank with Toilet Bowl Cleaner

This is what I started with...

The new rack of carbs for my Honda CB 550 K are all set to go, cleaned and assembled with brand new rebuild kits.  The last project to tackle for the fuel delivery system is the tank.  This tank is not the worst I have seen, but it certainly has rust inside, and that should be remedied, before installing a sparkling rack of carbs.  No sense in clogging the jets with rust particles, after the time, frustration and misery it took to rebuild the carbs. Crazy? I know!

Well, I could have continued to sand and buff the Honda CB550 tank, but I wanted to get on to the really important part, removing the rust from the inside.  Months ago, when I knew that I would be attempting this fix, I had acquired all the pieces of the puzzle, including: The Works toilet bowl cleaner, baking soda, some spare containers to drain the rusty gas, and a plug for sealing the tank when I removed the petcock.  They had been sitting neatly in a box, awaiting the day I would finally get off my ass and fix this tank.
